Abstract

The automobiles play an important role in the transport system. With an increase in population and living standard, the transport. The main pollutants contributed by I.C engines are CO, NOX unburned hydro-carbons HC) and other particulate missions. Other sources such as Electric power stations industrial and domestic fuel consumers also add pollution Lot of efforts are made to reduce the air pollution from petrol and diesel engines and regulations for emission limits are also imposed analysis of energy usage and pollution shows that alternative power systems are still a long way behind the conventional ones. Further developments in petrol and diesel engines combined with improvements in the vehicles, the development of platinum-based catalytic reactors for control of these exhaust emissions. Two new types of catalyst have demonstrated the feasibility of exhaust control by catalytic means, and have been incorporated on test vehicles to achieve emission levels .
