Abstract

"The International Building Code (IBC) is a prototypical building code established by the International Code Council (ICC). IBC Code deals with the structure type, plumbing, building finishes and fire prevention. The comprehensive building code creates minimum guidelines for building systems using prescriptive and performance-related provisions. It focuses on broad-based principles that make possible the use of new materials and new building designs.
The building code sets criteria for the size of the building, means of egress, size and location of exits. The building code also deals with access for the disabled and structural stability. The International Building Code is available for adoption and use by jurisdictions internationally. Its use within a governmental jurisdiction is intended to be accomplished through adoption by reference by proceedings establishing the jurisdiction’s laws. Also, jurisdictions should insert the appropriate information in provisions requiring specific local information, such as the name of the adopting jurisdiction.
