Abstract
"During my practicing architecture and teaching in design studio, one of the design
Phenomena that I found significantly interesting is concept generation.
Almost no term has recurred in the field of design as often as the term ‘concept’ has,
perhaps even more so than ‘design’ itself. Concept generation is the first step towards making a design, where between the abstract idea and the tangible design a whole process is located. Nevertheless, the term ‘concept is still controversial. Thus, highlighting the concept generation process is critical to understand the reasons behind many cases that noted in the design studios such as; a variety of levels of learning, thinking, and responding to the presented problems to be solved. Also, critique that is useful to one person is not necessarily supportive of another. Moreover, some students do better and are more creative than others; some instructors perform more effectively than others in the design studio, even though the latter may deliver knowledge well in other architectural subjects.
