Abstract

The proposed Therapeutic Tourism Resort in Bastora Dam represents a comprehensive
architectural initiative aimed at integrating health, recreation, and environmental harmony in the
Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Strategically located in the tranquil surroundings of Bastora Dam near
Erbil, the project takes full advantage of the site’s natural beauty, clean air, and therapeutic
potential to promote physical, mental, and emotional wellness. The primary goal of this graduation
project is to establish a solid research foundation that informs the design of a resort catering to
diverse user needs—ranging from patients and tourists to medical professionals and wellness
seekers. The design approach is rooted in detailed contextual analysis, including a study of similar
international examples, site evaluation, climate conditions, spatial planning, and functional zoning.
The project consists of seven major zones, including medical and therapeutic services, wellness
and educational facilities, accommodation, recreation, administration, and public activity areas.
This resort aspires to set a new benchmark for health tourism in the region, aligning modern
therapeutic practices with local culture and sustainable architectural standards. The findings of this
research reinforce the necessity of an integrated and adaptive design that supports both healing
experiences and operational efficiency while preserving the natural and cultural identity of the
location
