Abstract

Mental health is a cornerstone of individual well-being and societal stability, particularly in regions facing unique challenges such as Iraq and Kurdistan. This thesis presents the conceptualization and design of a Mental Health Center aimed at addressing the region's growing demand for mental health services. It explores historical and modern approaches to mental healthcare, emphasizing the importance of accessibility, holistic treatment, and community integration. The project incorporates diverse components, including inpatient and outpatient facilities, therapy and recreational spaces, and rehabilitation zones, designed to provide comprehensive care and support. Site selection and architectural planning were meticulously undertaken to ensure the center's functionality and sustainability, aligning with the climatic and cultural context of Erbil. The design integrates therapeutic environments with natural elements to promote healing, reduce stigma, and enhance patient recovery. This project contributes to advancing mental health infrastructure in the region, advocating for a multidisciplinary approach to mental well-being that benefits individuals, families, and communities alike.
