Abstract
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kuala Lumpur experienced rapid urbanization characterized by a significant reduction in green spaces and an increase in densely populated areas. This study examines the spatial distribution of "green" and
"red" zones within the city, where green zones represent urban green spaces such as parks and forests, and red zones denote areas of high urban density and development. The analysis reveals that urban expansion often encroached upon green spaces, leading to environmental degradation and loss of biodiversity. Conversely, the proliferation of red zones contributed to urban heat islands and reduced air quality. The findings underscore the need for sustainable urban planning that balances development with environmental conservation to enhance the city's resilience against future crises.
