Abstract

The rapid industrial development recently has negatively affected the environment and human health through the large accumulation of industrial waste. For this reason, the idea of recycling industrial waste has been widely discussed lately. One of the most important recycling processes is the production of artificial light weight aggregate, since large quantities of aggregate are consumed for concrete production and the limited natural resources for providing nature aggregate. Ground Granulated Furnace Slag (GGBFS) is an industrial waste from the steel melting process. In this study, the influence of GGBFS artificial aggregate on mechanical properties of concrete were investigated. Artificial aggregate was replaced with nature aggregate by 20%, 40%, and 60% by volume. Tests of compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and bond strength were carried out. The results showed improvement in compressive strength for the three replacement ratios. In addition, concrete contains 40% of GGBFS artificial aggregate showed the maximum result of splitting tensile strength. Furthermore, the bond strength enhanced at 20% GGBFS artificial aggregate.
