The Internet of Things (IoT) has evolved significantly since its conceptualization, revolutionizing industries, and human life. This paper explores the journey from 5G to the anticipated 6G technology, showcasing their impact on IoT applications. Looking ahead, 6G, expected by 2030, promises higher speeds and lower latency. A detailed comparison between 5G and 6G highlights advancements in technology and applications. Examining the evolution of IoT, the paper delves into applications like smart cities and autonomous driving. Novel interaction forms, such as holographic and five-sense communications, signal a move towards immersive experiences. The importance of reliable data transmission is emphasized, addressing challenges in IoT data transfer reliability. Enabling technologies for 6G in IoT, including fog computing and security solutions, are explored, along with reliability metrics. In conclusion, the paper paints a comprehensive picture of IoT's evolution, the role of 6G technology, and the crucial aspect of reliable data transmission shaping the future of IoT applications across diverse industries.
