Abstract
This comprehensive review focuses on Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) and their applications, in healthcare exploring both the present and future of this field. The main objectives of this review are threefold; assess the status identify challenges and knowledge gaps and propose new avenues for research and development. The review encompasses aspects of WBANs including energy efficiency, security measures, data rate optimization, congestion control, and integration with emerging technologies. By examining literature and research studies it offers a detailed overview of achievements as well as limitations, in these areas.
