Abstract
This study provided a flexible successive cancellation List (FL-SCL) decoding for polar codes, where some decoding pathways were pruned using a path metric. Two distinct path metric criteria were used to accomplish the pruning. The best threshold values are determined via a straightforward optimization process based on a design signal-to-noise power ratio (design-SNR). To evaluate FL-SCL performance and complexity with successive cancellation list (SCL) decoder, simulation experiments were run over flat fading channel and Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel. The findings showed that, in comparison to SCL, the suggested FL-SCL decoder offered a computational complexity reduction of up to 65%. These benefits can be obtained at a bit error rate (BER) range of 10-4 with a performance decrease of up to 0.8 dB when compared to SCL.
